History
~Visigoth dynasty is invaded by the Basques at Pyrenees.
King Roderick is the leader of the Visigoth and he dies in battle.

~In 710 this allows the Moors (is the Spanish name for Muslims) led by Tariq Ibn Zayid
to enter and overthrow the Visigoths.

This picture shows the Moorish army ready to invade.

~The Moors entered from the south.  They called the Iberian Peninsula Al-Andalus.
Today the Spanish named the southern area of Spain a city called Andalusia, coming
                             from the Muslim word Al-Andalus.

~Although European culture is thought to have been shown during the Renaissance, the
Moors actually had their renaissance long before the Europeans.  The Moors in Spain
were already exhibiting the arts, science, literature, and architecture.  The Moors were the
the ones that enlightened Spain and took them out of the dark ages.

~During Mideival period James Burke wrote in his book The Day the Universe Changed
writes "streets were mixed with excrement and urine would be soiled and straw used to
cover the dirt floors...Midevial Europe was a miserable lot, which ran high in illiteracy,
                           superstition, barbarism, and filth."
